Growing up as an only child, drawing was my play and constant activity. My kindergarten teacher was amazed at my early ability and tried to get my work published in a book of elementary art. I turned to dance during adolescence but decided I wanted to pursue art as a lifelong career. After receiving a B.F.A. degree in 1992, I began a career in graphic design and digital illustration. I worked for a textbook production company for eight years doing digital illustrations. I learned valuable skills while working solely on the computer but also desired more personal art endeavors. Earning a M.F.A. degree in 2000 marked the beginning of a journey to more imaginative art making. In 2003, I began painting full time and do work that was truly my own. I had a large one-person show of my intuitive, dream-like paintings at the Santa Fe Gallery in 2007. Currently, I am studying the work of my favorite masters: Klimt, Picasso, Klee and Kandinsky, to glean their knowledge of line, shape and pattern in paintings. I am especially interested in their transitional periods when they were moving from realism to abstraction. I am working towards complex abstraction inspired by organic forms. But my colors are subjective and the composition is secondary to provide order for the freely painted colors. Now after more than thirty years and two children of my own, painting is again my play and, as much as possible, constant activity.
